Condom Scam Allegations are baseless – U T Khader
Mangaluru: “The allegation by the former BJP Corporator on the purchase of condoms is baseless. The allegation made by the former BJP corporator Ramesh is far from the truth. They have the habit of making false allegations against the Congress. We are ready for any investigations, I am not involved in any such scams”, said the minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader, in a press meet held at the Circuit house here on September 29.
BJP corporator Ramesh alleged, “There is a huge scam in the purchase of condoms, instead of buying the condoms from the government, the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society has purchased them from a private company. There is even no clarity in the expenditure for treatment and tests. In the name of AIDS prevention, funds have been mismanaged. The Chief minister is the president of the AIDS prevention society and the health minister is the vice president. This scam happened when U T Khader was the health minister.”
U T Khader also said, “Neither the Chief Minister nor myself, are involved in the scam. It is the Central government that is responsible for buying condoms through the National Aids Control Organisation (NACO). Without any information, he has put false allegations on us. All the purchase has been done Under the central government and NACO is buying the condoms and distributing them”.
Cauvery water row
When asked about the Cauvery water row, Khader said, “We are ready for any sacrifice, we are with the Chief minister, whatever decision the chief minister takes we will follow. We are not after power, our intention is to solve the problems faced by the people of Karnataka”.
Ration card, Coupon system
U T Khader said that the state government has started dialing system to avail ration coupons. Ration card holders should call 161 to get their coupons. This system is the first of its kind in the country to collect coupons. Through the dialing system, we can avoid people standing in the queue to collect their coupons.
Ration card holders can collect their coupons every month by dialing 161-4. Every member will get rice and wheat. We will also start distributing dal from next month at a discounted price, he said.
