Congress Protests against Central Government for Petrol, Diesel Price Hike

Mangaluru: The Congress Party staged a state-wide protest against the Central Government for the hike in petrol, diesel and cooking gas prices, in front of the DC office here on September 21.

Addressing the protesters District Congress President Harish Kumar said, “Five years ago when the crude oil price in the International market was $140 per barrel and the petrol price was Rs 74, BJP members got to the streets and protested by cooking on the streets using firewood. But now when the crude oil price in the international market is $50 the price of petrol is still the same”.

Harish Kumar further said, “Shobha is talking about the central funds misused by the state government. Who is Shobha Karandlaje to question about the central funds sanctioned to the State government? Whatever funds have been received, the State government will provide the account of it to the Central government. When Shobha joined the RSS she had nothing with her but after joining the RSS she made a lot of assets. We are not asking Shobha to reveal her asset to the income tax or the government but let her reveal it to the people of the state. Even the MP of our district showed his power by violating section 144. The MP also takes the law in his hands since the BJP does not want peace in the district. The price of Petrol, Diesel and gas should be brought down. If the central government will not bring down the price of petrol, diesel, and gas in the coming days we will intensify our protest,” he said.

Senior Congress leader Ibrahim Kodijal said, “Our democracy has given priority for tolerance but nowadays we are seeing intolerance everywhere. Prime minister Modi and his team started to create unrest in the country. We were very happy when Modi became the Prime minister thinking that he will have concern towards the poor. But he did not do anything for the poor instead Ambani and Adani have benefited from him.”

Ibrahim further said, “Recently a BJP minister said that those who have two-wheelers are not poor so there is no need to decrease the price of petrol. Our MP was saying that he will set the district on fire. People did not elect him to set the district on fire! They had elected him to douse the fire set by others. Those who had elected him should teach him a lesson in the coming elections. Our district minister in-charge is trying to unite people of all walks of life and is working hard for the development of the district. MP Nalin and Yeddyurappa are demanding Ramanath Rai’s resignation. Yes, people have the right to ask for MP Nalin’s resignation because he had said that he will set the District on fire. People have the right to ask for Yeddyurappa’s resignation because he went to jail for corruption. BJP has no morality to demand district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai’s resignation.”
