DC announces Rates for Tankers Supplying Water

Mangaluru: Due to water shortage and at many places when MCC has stopped water suppy, residents have been relying on water supplied by private water tankers, where in some cases, the tanker owners have been charging enormously. In the view this, the Dakshina Kannada District Administration has fixed rates for tankers that supply water in Mangaluru City Corporation limits.

Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim has announced that the price of water supplied by a 6,000 litre capacity water tanker will be Rs 1,000; for 9,000 litre capacity water tanker will be Rs 1,300; and for 12,000 capacity water tanker Rs 1,500.

It is learnt that the DC has fixed the rates in consultation with officials of the civic body in wake of the water problems haunting the city. The rate has been fixed scientifically taking in to consideration the distance that the tankers need to ply, fuel and water cost as well as allowance for the tanker drivers and other factors. DC has also said if residents think they are being overcharged by the tanker owners, they should immediately lodge a complaint with the MCC authorities, not forgetting to note down the vehicle registration number of the water tanker. And the district administration and MCC will take necessary action against these tanker owners.
