Delhi L-G to pay surprise visits to check dengue preparedness

New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday said he will conduct surprise visits to various places in the national capital to check the preparedness for prevention of dengue.

Jung will also visit Delhi Metro construction sites to see the preparedness in checking breeding of larvae.

The lt. governor held a meeting at Raj Niwas to review the situation, and directed municipal corporations to mount full-scale efforts to control dengue through source reduction.

He asked them to follow a targeted approach, based on pockets of high incidence.

Jung directed them to follow a roster for checking breeding of larvae and to carry out planned fumigation.

Jung told the Delhi Development Authority to take special care at construction sites to check breeding of mosquito larvae.

He also directed the Northern Railway to carry out anti-larval spraying, said a Raj Niwas press note.

He directed the health department and municipal bodies to generate more awareness about prevention and cure through advertisements, radio spots and posters.

Jung urged the department to use public address systems mounted on vehicles to spread awareness, together with the distribution of pamphlets informing people about the do’s and don’ts regarding dengue.

The lt. governor also asked the health department to ensure that hospitals, clinics and laboratories do not turn away any critical dengue patient.

“Though the hospitals and staff are under tremendous pressure, they must rise to the occasion to meet the challenge. The health department should involve senior school children in spreading awareness in localities and neighbourhoods,” said Jung.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the health department, DDA, municipal corporations, Delhi Cantonment Board, Northern Railway, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme and National Centre for Disease Control among others.
