Dinanagar terror attack: Police personnel promoted

ArrayDinanagar (Punjab), Aug 5 (IANS) Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday ordered promotions for all personnel of the Dinanagar police station who played an active role in neutralising three Pakistani terrorists during a terror attack on July 27.

Badal, who returned from a tour of eastern European countries, on Wednesday inspected the police station complex where the terrorists were engaged in an 11-hour-long gun battle with Punjab Police.

“It is a matter of record that you did not care for your personal safety and went after the terrorists with whatever was at your command,” Badal said while lauding the police force.

Badal, accompanied by Director General of Police (DGP) Sumedh Singh Saini, said Punjab Police had shown exemplary courage and fast response to the terror attack.

Talking to the media, Badal announced that a Rapid Rural Response Force would be launched in September. The force would respond to any call emanating from any village in the state within 10 minutes.

He said Punjab Police personnel would be imparted specialised training to thwart any terrorist threat.

Badal also announced that an exclusive SWAT (special weapons and tactics) team for border areas would be established in addition to the present SWAT team.

“Foreign tie-ups have also been finalised to impart specialised training to the teams. We will have the world’s best available SWAT team in Punjab,” Badal said.
