DKAS to host DK Dist. Junior Athletics Meet on 13-14 Oct.

Dakshina Kannada Athletics Association (DKAS) to host D K District Junior Athletics Meet on 13 and 14 October 2016 at Mangala Stadium-Mangaluru

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Krishna Shenoy- Treasurer of DKAS said, ” Dakshina Kannada district has traditionally been the birth place of many Athletes and the list includes Olympians and many represented India in International arena. Our district has the talent that is waitinf to be discovered and for years our association has been working towards scouting, encouraging such talent. DKAS has conducted several Marathon and Athletic Championship which includes Open National Athletic Championship in 1987, and a successful 19th Federation Athletic Championship in May 2015″.


“This time we are hosting the District Junior athletic Championship on 13 and 14 October at Mangala stadium-Mangaluru , and as of now we have already received registration from over 800 athletes, between the age group of 14 to 20 years boys and girls. The meet will be inaugurated on 13 Oct. at 9.30 am by MCC Mayor Harinath, along with guests of honor, Abhayachandra Jain-former minister, Krishna J Palemar-former minister, Pradeep D’Souza- Deputy Director DYES, and presided over by Ms MR Poovamma-Olympian and Arjuna Awardee, and Abhishek Shetty-International Athlete.


The closing ceremony will be held on 14 October at 4.30 pm, which will be graced by Vinay Hegde – Chancellor Nitte University, Ranganath Bhat- Secretary, Canara High school Association, Pradeep G Pai- MD, Hangyo Ice Cream, Vandana Shanbough-Olympian and Rtn Shailendra Pai- President, Rotary Mangalore Metro. ” added Shenoy. General Secretary of DKAS, A Tharanath Shetty was also present on the dais during the press meet.
