Dollar in lower 109 yen zone in early Tokyo trade

Tokyo, May 13 (IANS) The US dollar changed hands in the lower 109 yen zone in early trade on Friday morning in Tokyo, marginally higher than levels seen overnight in New York.

At 9 a.m., the dollar was quoted at 109.13-14 yen compared with 108.95-109.05 yen in New York and 108.92-94 yen at 5 p.m. in Tokyo on Thursday, Xinhua reported.

The euro, meanwhile, fetched $1.1373-1374 and 124.11-12 yen against $1.1373-1383 and 123.97-124.07 yen in New York and $1.1407-1408 and 124.25-29 yen late on Thursday afternoon in Tokyo.

Chinese shares open lower

Beijing, May 13 (IANS) Chinese stocks opened lower on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.26 percent to open at 2,828.46 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index opened 0.28 percent lower at 9,769.13 points, Xinhua news agency reported.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China’s NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, was down 0.18 percent to open at 2,030.94 points.
