Donnarumma youngest to join Italian football squad

Rome, Aug 28 (IANS) AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has become the youngest footballer to join the Italian national team in the last 105 years at 17 years, 6 months and 2 days.

Donnarumma broke the record of retired Inter Milan defender Giuseppe Bergomi, who was called up in 1982 at 18 years and 3 months, reports Efe.

The youngest-ever player called up by Italy was Rodolfo Giovannelli, who joined his national team at the age of 16 years, 3 months and 8 days in 1910.

Donnarumma performed superbly with Milan during his side’s 3-2 victory last Sunday over Torino in Serie A first round, when he saved a penalty in the last minute of the match.
