Don’t take decision on Toll collection Until CS meeting – Shobha Karandlaje

Udupi: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje has instructed the NHAI officials not to take any decision until the Chief Secretary’s meeting in the Toll collection issue.
She was speaking after chairing the meeting with NHAI officials at the Deputy commissioner’s office on Tuesday, February 20.

Without taking into confidence the local people collecting the toll is not right. The Navayuga Company should exempt vehicles with ‘KA-20’ registration. The Company has not completed the Service roads from Hejamadi to Kundapur. The work on the 2.2-km stretch is pending in Kundapur along with the proposed flyover. In Udupi, work on one-km stretch and the flyover at Karavali junction is pending while 3.3-km road work is pending in Padubidri.

The NHAI officials said that the decision to initiate toll collection was taken at the meeting held by NHAI in September. As per the agreement signed by the central and state governments.

Shobha Karandlaje said that the chief secretary would call a meeting shortly in the state capital. Until the meeting, the MP instructed NHAI officials not to collect toll from KA 20 registered vehicles.

Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh instructed the NHAI officials to complete the pending work.

Assistant commissioner Kundapur Shilpa Naag, SP Incharge Vishnuvardhan, Additional DC Anuradha, RTO and other officials were present.

  1. This MP Shoba should inquire why this Contractor from Andhra
Pradesh is purposely delaying the road works on NH66. All the
people in authority in Udupi should also inspect what this work
is going on, on a snail’s pace, knowing very well that one can
work only 7 months in the Udupi/Mangalore/Kundapur region
due to excessive rains thereafter. This NH66 would have been
long completed if it were awarded to a Korean company, as
they work day and night on road projects.
