Bengaluru: The State Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval to provide land to build a 400-bed super-speciality hospital  in Moodanidmaboru Udupi to a firm owned by Abu Dhabi-based Indian businessman B R Shetty.
The cabinet meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Law minister T B Jayachandra said that the Cabinet gave an in-principle approval to a proposal by B R Shetty Ventures Pvt Ltd to establish a super-speciality hospital and to develop a government community health center at Mudanidamburu village in Udupi district. The company, owned by businessman Dr B R Shetty, has come forward to invest Rs 200 crore for this purpose, the minister said.
The company has asked the government to give a piece of government land located adjacent to the community health center on lease. It has proposed to establish a 400-bed super-speciality hospital and develop the community health center and hand them over to the government for maintenance.
“The Cabinet decided to enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the company after consulting the Law, the Health and Family Welfare and the Finance departments. The land will be given on lease for 30 years. The decision to hand over the community health center will be taken depending on the progress of the project to establish a super-speciality hospital,” he added.

  1. Investment towards a modern hospital in and around Udipi can be the best contribution that Dr. B. R. Shetty can make anywhere in India, particularly in Karnataka. Need for additional medical facilities of any kind in India will be a promising reward for Dr. B. R. Shetty and all his partners from the Arab World who are interested in diverting their investments for best causes in India. While the population is growing, and while the life span in India is also on the increase need for any kind of modern medical facility in India will bring promising results. The biggest benefit for Medical related facilities in India is the availability of abundance of human resources such as Doctors, Nurses and all other specialty personnel to do the job at a best and most convenient income benefit. It is so nice for Indian qualified medical resources to remain in India and serve their community as well as their own families too. This will be a mutually beneficial prospect in India for everyone. Thank you, Dr. B. R Shetty for your timely and thoughtful gesture in Medical related investment in India. This will be a most rewarding effort on your part in your own native land.

  2. My basic question is whether this hospital is going to cater to the rich or will there will be an entry for the poor and have nots?

  3. Thank you Raghuram. We all congratulate and appreciate your noble idea giving back something to the land and the society you grew up with. Hope your vision and efforts become a reality soon and I sincerely applaud you and your family for conceiving this noble idea. God bless you and your family.
