Other Insights:

Dr Shantaram Shetty’s role model is his teacher, Prof. Dr. Balu Shankar, who was the director of the health department of India.

Though Dr Shantaram Shetty is very busy with his profession, he enjoys playing tennis, reading, and watching sports whenever time permits.

While talking to us, he shared an incident with us – one that he would like to share with our readers:

Amongst his many patients, he had once treated a patient, who had been diagnosed with cancer. Later, the patient came up to him and said that he was cured of his terminal affliction! That was when Dr. Shetty realized that doctors can only treat patients, but it’s only God who truly heals them.

Dr. Shantaram Shetty’s message to our readers is as follows:

There is no alternative to hard work done with genuineness and it should be our endeavor to help others whenever we can. Each one of us should feel proud of our nation and do whatever we can in building up the formation of the nation.

Whilst speaking with Dr. Shetty he also reiterated that he is very proud to be a Mangalorean.

Mangalorean.com wishes Dr. Shantaram Shetty all the best in his future life and endeavors!

Dr Badur Rajeeth Shetty, Qatar:
DrM Shantharam Shetty is a person i would worship him for my life. He has changed many a lives.
My father had the privilege to work with this great man at Government wenlok hospital. One day he adviced him that he should think of his family in addition to discharge his hospital duties. This advice changed our destiny, the testimony is his children and grandchildren.
Most of us know DrShetty,in fact any problems in our family dad used to consult him and DR Shetty had solutions. My Sister and Dad were his patients too.
My dad had a bad road traffic accident. His right hand was totally shattered, which was expertly fixed by Dr Shetty.Another incident was related to my fathers patient. This elderly gentleman had a fall and broke his leg,and so he went to a local hospital for which he was adviced to continue with conservative treatement because of his age. And so his son came to my dad,who suggested Dr Shetty for treatment.I still remember the smiling old man walking to my dads clinic exactly after a week. What a transformation. May God bless Professor M Shantharam shetty and his family with happiness

Yes, Even I have met Dr. Shetty in 2002 and even I have felt the same way like Richie John Pais, India. Indeed he is a GOD in the form of man. Every doctor is a GOD to his patient but very sorry to say not many doctors live up to their expectations these days. Dr. shetty, the way you have lived your life and served your patients is exemplary and a lesson to young doctors.

Narayana Puthran,Ullal, UAE:
Dr. Shantharam Shetty, Hats off to you Sir. In 1982 you did an operation to my 70 years old Mother, when she was bed ridden due to the damage & displacement of her previously fixed plate on her thigh. Other Doctors had refused do the re-opertion because of her old age, but Mr. Shetty agreed to do the operation
The operation consists:
a) Removal of old & damaged plate & screws which were fixed 5years ago(1977) by other Doctor.
b) Filling old 6 hols by bone grafting.
c, Fixing new two nos. of plates each with 6nos. of screws.
This operation took more than 6 hours & he did the operation in Govt, Wenlock Hospital free of cost.

After this opertion within two months my Mother started walking normally & she lived for 17 years more.(died at the age of 87 years)

In another case one of my friend who met with an Bike & Truck accident & got multiple fractures. His right leg got crushed. The doctors on duty had decided to go for amputation of his badlly damaged right leg from upper part of thigh.
Immediatly we approched Dr. Shantharam Shetty & requested to save his leg. He accepted the risk & with in the period of six months he did more than 18 operations on leg & finally succeded in saving his leg. Now Mr. Rajesh Bharadwaj is walking on both his legs because of Dr, Shetty’s great care, patience & healing hands.
May God Bless you sir!

Congratulations to Dr. Shantaram Shetty. We are proud of you. You have done excellent service to our society. A very good effort by Mangalorean.com website to highlight Dr. Shetty’s achievments. We need “good leaders with secular credentials” like Mr. Shantaram Shetty, who can bring communal harmony and peace in our beloved Tulu Nadu. All the best Dr. Shetty in your endeavors.

Ronald Colaco, Mangalore-India, India :
DR.Shantaram Shetty is a great personality in the Orthopedics field in the country. Though I was not very much aware of his many achievements till recently, it is his younger brother Mr. Sakaram Shetty, a senior engineer, in USA, who has got to his credit a few Architectural marvels, gave me a few clues recently about Dr. Shantharam. In fact, Mr. Sakaram Shettys contacts were given to me by Dr. Shantharam Shetty some were in 2006. It is a wonderful feeling, that he is one of the great Mangaloreans in the Medical field with a Magic touch. As Mangaloreans we are lucky & privileged to have him in our midst. May he have many more years of an active life in his great profession.

Dear Dr.ji

Congratulations on being a Mangalorean Star. This is a small gift from all the Mangaloreans to you…We pray the almighty to give you long life and strength to serve the society.

Meera Nazareth, Canada:
I have been a patient of Dr. Shantharam Shetty…rather I just went in for a consultation…guess it was more psychological than having a problem itself. He put me at ease, strongly confirming that I had absolutely no problem at all. I have not seen a doctor for the same problem again and I am perfectly ok. Thanks to Dr. Shetty. The most important part of this article is his statement which NO other doctor will admit…yes, we go to a doctor with good faith, and as Doctor Shetty has so rightfully said “doctors can only treat their patients, but it is only God who truly heals them”. May God bless Dr. Shetty for this acknowledgement.

Donald Roche, India:

HE IS AN EXCEPTIONAL/EXTRAORDINARY HUMAN BEING. A life completly dedicated to the service of society. Countable people can truly match the calibre of Dr. Shetty. He is worthy of emulation – a great inspiraton for many Mangaloreans. My dad breathed his last in his hospital (city hosp.), but he has done everything possible to treat my Dad. There are many misguided youth in Mangalore – may be they can pick a leaf from Dr. Shetty’s life and get inspired to do good to the society by educating themselves. How wonderful it will be to find a person like Dr. Shetty among our misguided youth. We all need to think about it.

Congratulations Dr. Shetty. Your hard work and dedication to the betterment of human life deserves this honour. I have read a lot about your contribution to Science and healing. Also in 1983, I was very proud to receive a certificate in General proficiency from you (the chief guest) during our school day at Rosa Mystica High School, Kaikamba. Your family, especially your three girls (I was Ambika’s classmate at St. Agnes) must be very proud of you.

Manoj Kidiyoor, USA:
Dr. Shantharam Shetty, Hats off to you Sir!. Around 30 years ago, when my Dad had a serious accident where he broke 5 ribs and a dislocated shoulder, Dr. Shetty attended him and with his care, my dad is just as normal as the other person. When I broke my hand twice, Dr. Shetty fixed it. Like me, Dr. Shetty has shown light to many and many People who once lost hope. May God Bless you sir!

Claude Fernandes, UAE:
Dr. Shantharam Shetty saved the life of our friends child when they approached him for a second opinion. Their child had some problems with her ankle and used to walk on her toes. The doctors in UAE suggested them to operate her tendon. They did not have the courage to do that, because this child was the first gift in their life. They decided to take a second opinion from this great Doctor. Even though he was under immense pressure those days (year 2001) he attended to their plea, ignoring his problems. He was in a state of awe when they told him that the doctors in UAE had advised them to go in for an operation. Today the child has grown up and can walk without any problems. Thanks to Dr. Shantaram Shetty for saving the life of an infant and the healing touch. Let this be a testimony to all those who encounter problems in life because second opinion always helps. Thanks to Violet and team for making him a Mangalorean star – October 2008. This world would definitely be a nice place to dwell in if there were many more doctors like him.

Long live the Dr. Shantaram – The doctor with a healing touch and a radiant look on his face.

Shenoy, India:
Dr Shantaram Shetty is indeed one of the most talented surgeons from South Kanara. His ability to reduce the fractures within a minute or two very accurately without leaving any deformity is God’s gift to this soft spoken polite surgeon who is extremely humble in his out look. May God bless him many more years of useful life.

Antony T. D’ Souza, Karkala, Qatar:
Back in 1983 from Karkala, along with my mother we visited Dr. Shantharam Shetty’s house in Mallikatta early in the morning. Though he was hurrying to his office his patience, calm composure, gentle talk and approach, consoling words and his confidence building smile to us almost took away our almost all nervous thoughts. We were totally worried earlier because it was wrongly diagnosed by another doctor. After medication my mother fully recovered until today from cervical spondalities promptly. By this I am confident that Dr. Shetty must have healed hundred thousands of people. It was a honor to go through his qualifications, Honors and Awards, Achievements and recognitions etc., Sincere thanks to Mangalore.com and Ms. Violet Pereira for providing us insight and particularly providing me an opportunity to say once again “THANK YOU DOCTOR”.

Sarvotham Shetty & Family, Abu Dhabi, UAE:

Dearest Shantaramanna,
Our hearty congratulations. May GOD bless you with good health, happiness, peace and strength to do much more noble causes in future. On behalf of UAE Kannadigas, I wish you all the very best. Thanks to Violet and Mangalorean.com for highlighting this great personality.

Richie John Pais, India:
He is one of the few doctors in Mangalore who is revered as God. We can not add anything to his persona by saying few or more things about him. I saw him a few days back near the lift at his hospital “Tejaswini”. So many people were around him. And all of them including me were speechless and hence we all consiously ( and collectively) allowed him to pass by us.
