Drowning at Sasihithlu, 2 Bodies Recovered, MLA Bava Requests CM to Compensate Fishermen’s Families

Mangaluru: Two bodies of the three fishermen who were feared drowned have been recovered from Sasihithlu and Muttalive here, on June 26.

One of the bodies has been identified as that of Yashwant while the other body is yet to be identified. The search is still on for the third.

Speaking to Mangalorean.com, MLA Moideen Bava said, “Three fishermen from my constituency have lost their lives. As soon as I heard about the drowning of these three fishermen who belonged to very poor families, I requested the Chief Minister to release compensation for their family members. The CM has considered my request and ordered the district collector to release Rs 4 lakh for the families of each fisherman. The amount will be given to their family members within 24 hours.”

MLA Bava further said, “We have recovered one body from Sasihithlu at around 8 am and have sent it to the Suratkal Hospital but there were no doctors to conduct the post mortem.” Corporator Pratibha Kulai and MLA Bava went to the hospital and informed the DHO to arrange doctors for post mortem. The DHO immediately deputed a doctor to do the post-mortem in Suratkal.

MLA Bava also said, “In another incident, Bharat from Bengaluru had come to the beach near NITK and while clicking a selfie, fell into the water. The coast guards immediately rescued him. I request all tourists and students who come to Mangaluru to visit the temples and beaches not to venture into the sea during the rainy season. Even fishing in the sea during the rainy season is dangerous.”
