Esha’s Kannada film joins Oscar 2016 race, Hema ‘proud’

Mumbai, Sep 26 (IANS) It’s going to be a double boost for India at the upcoming 88th Academy Awards. After Chaitanya Tamhane’s Marathi film “Court”, actress Esha Deol starrer Kannada film “Care Of Footpath 2” has been selected as a lateral entry for the Academy Awards. The actress’ mother Hema Malini says it’s a “proud” moment for her.

Directed by Guinness World Record making director Kishan Shrikanth, best known by his screen name Master Kishan, “Care Of Footpath 2” is a sequel of the 2006 film “Care of Footpath” and also features actress Avika Gor.

Hema took to Twitter on Saturday to share the news.

In a series of posts, she wrote: “Wonderful news which I must share with all of you! Esha’s bilingual movie in Kannada and Hindi has made a lateral entry into the 2016 Oscars!

“Premiere will be in Los Angeles, USA, in October, before release in India. The movie will be released in Hollywood style with a lot of fanfare.

“All India release in November. Esha plays the role of Meera, a bold advocate fighting for justice. 1st time a Kannada film has won an Oscar entry.

“Such a proud moment for me when I heard about this honour! With this she is one step ahead of us both. Felt I must share my joy with all of you,” she added.

“Care of Footpath 2” will release in Hindi as “Kill Them Young”.

“Court” has been announced as India’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category for Oscars.
