Mexico City, Dec 8 (IANS) Football’s ruling body in North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) will be run by its executive committee instead of its president, a statement said on Tuesday.

Several CONCACAF officials including incumbent president Alfredo Hawit were involved in the United States-led investigation into FIFA corruption, reports Xinhua.

The vote to replace Hawit will take place in Mexico City on May 12, 2016 during CONCACAF’s Congress.

“The Confederation’s Executive Committee (EXCO) voted unanimously to not appoint a successor President of CONCACAF and to operate the Confederation through the members of the EXCO as a whole until a new President is democratically elected by its Member Associations,” a CONCACAF statement said on Monday.
