Former deputy mayor Judith Mascarenhas Passes Away

Mangaluru: Well known Social worker and former deputy mayor Judith Mascarenhas (85), passed away at Prashant Nivas, Jeppu here on January 9.

Judith Mascarenhas was shifted to Prashant Nivas in August due to illness. Her final rights will be held on Wednesday. Earlier, Judith was a teacher and had taught in Bengaluru and Mangaluru. Judith Mascarenhas had relentlessly worked for the poor and the downtrodden and helped them in getting employment in government organizations.

In 1991, Judith had started an NGO called “Preeti Neeti trust” and had dedicated her entire life to the welfare of the poor.

Judith was born in 1931 to Aloysius and Magdaline Mascarenhas. She had completed her BA and BT from the Madras University and had represented many national and international conferences. She was an active social activist. Later she joined politics, contested the MCC elections and was thrice elected corporator and served as deputy Mayor twice.

Mortal remains will be brought to the residence ” The Flowerette”, Commander George Martis Road, Mallikatta on Wednesday 11th January, 2017 for public homage at 1 pm to 2.30 pm. Funeral cortege leaves residence at 2.45 pm to St Sebastian Church, Bendore followed by public homage from 3.00 pm to 3.30 pm. Mass at 3.30 pm followed by burial at Bendore cemetery.
