France church attack intensifies terrorism fear in Europe

Paris, July 27 (IANS) The latest terror attack where two Islamic State militants stormed a church and killed an 84-year-old priest in Normandy, France, on Tuesday, has rattled the nerves of millions in the Europe and beyond, reinforcing the impression that the region was in the cross hair of terrorists.

The police unit specialising in hostage situations responded quickly after receiving a call from an escaped nun.

The terrorists were gunned down by the police as they tried to flee the church, Xinhua news agency reported.

Despite low number of casualties, the attack still shocked France and the Europe as it hit a small town far from bustling cities like Paris and Nice, prompting fears that terrorists have managed to penetrate deeper into the region.

One of the attackers was identified as 19-year-old Adel Karmic, arrested twice in 2015 for trying to travel to Syria using false identity card, Paris Prosecutor Francois Molins said.

Afterward, he was under house arrest and made to wear an electronic tag allowing the police to trace him. However, the device was deactivated for a few hours every morning, Molins said.

The identification of the second attacker was not known yet, the prosecutor said.

President Francois Hollande rushed to the scene shortly after the incident. He condemned the attack as a “heinous crime” and pledged to use all means in the war against terrorism.

Hollande also called for national unity, saying what these terrorists want was to divide the nation.

The President earlier this month announced that he would send artillery to Iraq to reinforce local forces battling the IS.

  1. Western leaders continue bringing in so called refugees that are terrorists, just wolves in sheep clothing in their millions, and insist on being willfully ignorant. Regretfully, the blood of the many innocent Non Muslims and Muslims that will die, will be on their hands. By the way this is going today, this is not going to end well. Many far right leaders will gain the clear upper hand in the elections, and there are many among us who have lived through the horrors of the world wars and we all know well what happened, when such leaders come to power, but still it appears we have not learned anything.

Peace is not available on the shelf of a super market, and words that we hear today from almost ALL world leaders in my opinion can only be classified as “Hot Air”. For peace to prevail this ideology of hate MUST be over and done with by all enlightened people irrespective of his/her faith. We have waited for long and nothing has changed, and so if we do not speak up and act now, tomorrow may be too late.

Every child born is a clean slate, and if anyone can stoop to this level of brutality it is only one thing – the state of their minds. It is the first responsibility of parents to teach their children to love, rather than hate, next is their education and the ideologies they subscribe, the neighbourhoods they live in. All spoilt apples must be separated and isolated.

The silence is deafening as we continue ignoring the stark realities that are actually taking place by looking the other way, and in doing so we are giving our tacit approval to the many brutalities going. Since I do not see any action worth mentioning, I can only pray for divine intervention as this seems the last resort.
