Paris, Aug 8 (IANS) French football Ligue 1 will employ “Hawkeye” technology for the first time, a method to automatically detect when a ball passes the goal line.
Frederic Thiriez, president of the LFP French football league said he was delighted that the goal-line technology will be used, adding that seven cameras will be positioned at either end of the stadium, ready to deliver instant results both to the referee’s watch, as well as to the jumbotron at the stadium, reports Efe.
The goal-line technology was experimented with at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil last year and the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, as well as the English Premier League, while other leagues such Serie A and Bundesliga are planning to implement it in the upcoming season.
The 20 stadiums, which will be hosting the 2015/16 Ligue 1 games, have already been equipped with these technological devices.
A total of 20 French stadiums that will be hosting the 2015-2016 Ligue 1 ties have already been equipped with the detections system which are authorized by FIFA.
The legaue kicked off with a match between Lille and Paris Saint-Germain on Friday, which the latter won 1-0.
