150 kg and six feet fish caught in Honnavara, attracts the people at a stall in Hubli on Monday.

According to Dr. Arunachalam Kumar, this fish is one of the rarest known marine specimens in the world. Acclaimed as the fossil fish, the specimen is that of a Coelacanth, once thought extinct, with only 500 or so supposed survivors in the world today. Described a critically endangered, the Coelacanth is a evolutionary biologists Holy Grail. Dr. Kumar appeals scientists to make all attempts to have a closer look at the specimen and preserve it for museum and study. This according to Dr. Kumar, is the first ever sighting of the coelacanth in Indian waters and marks a record for range of the rare fish!
