Hockey: Thakur rescues Indian Oil

Chennai, (IANS) A 53rd minute equaliser by former international Deepak Thakur rescued Indian Oil Corporation as they drew 1-1 with a young Karnataka XI in their opening league fixture of the 89th MCC Muruguappa Gold Cup All-India invitational hockey tournament here on Thursday.

Karnataka led 1-0 on a goal by Machaiah in the 49th minute before Thakur struck the equaliser for the more experienced IOCL.

In another match, Army XI trounced local challengers Indian Overseas Bank 6-0 with goals by Jonny Jasrotia, Biraj Ekka, Binoy Bengra, Siraju AP, Chandan Aind and Pawal Lakra.
