Deputy Commissioner not Responsible for Sand Problem in Udupi District – CM Kumaraswamy

Byndoor: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that the deputy commissioner or the district administration is not responsible for the sand problem in Udupi district but some of the complicated laws set down by the central government do not allow to give the license for the extraction of sand.

He was speaking at The Konkana Kharvi Auditorium, Trasi on October 30. In the coastal districts, the common people have been hit hard by the unavailability of sand. The government projects are also not getting sand. The BJP is protesting against the Deputy Commissioner and alleging that she is responsible for the Sand Problem, but the Deputy Commissioner is not responsible for this. The CRZ norms have been set up by the central government, the BJP should work towards getting a relaxation of the CRZ norms.

In the past, when the BJP was in power, they had failed to control illegal sand mining. The government will bring strict rules in the state for the extraction of sand after the elections, he said.

  1. The Hi-Tech Kosamma Hajji Abdullah Maternity Hospital in Udupi was nevertheless built and completed by Mr. B.R. Shetty’s Contractor during the sand unavailability crisis. Many other apartment projects in Mangalore too were built and completed by various builders during the same period.
Therefore sand crisis is not real – it only affects those who do not know how to source it.

Politicians love to be in the news all the while instead of working quietly, and taking care of their responsibilities.
