It’s Six from Dr Kiran Shetty! Wild Cricketers of FMCI Vie for Trophy in ‘Institution Day’ Cricket Tourney

It’s Six from Dr Kiran Shetty! Wild Cricketers of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI)-Mangaluru Vie for Trophy in ‘Institution Day’ Cricket Tourney, which kicked-off on Sunday, 10 February 2019 in the FMCI Centenary Grounds.

Mangaluru: “It’s a six from Dr Kiran Shetty”; “Fr Roshan Crasta is clean bowled”; “It’s a superb catch”; ” Wow, that’s a good catch, but Oops, it’s a no Ball, Not Out?” and many more were said by commentator Dr Prathvi Shetty, Dept of Surgery, Father Muller Medical College during the opening match, of the six over each cricket tournament. Call it a lazy Sunday for many, but for the bunch of doctors, administrative priests, nurses, and other staff of father Muller Charitable Institutions, Sunday 10 February was a day for the physicians to keep their stethoscopes aside and hung their white-coats on the hanger, and for the nurses and others staff it was big break from taking care of the patients, and for the administration priests it was a morning to relax from the hectic time of listening to complaints and other hassles.

Yes, it was a beautiful and sunny Sunday, where the Cricket Tournament kicked-off as part of the various Sports and Games Activities to mark the “INSTITUTION DAY 2019 ” which will be celebrated on 13 March 2019. FMCI along with the Sports and Games Committee in the view of ‘Institution Day’ had organized “Sports, Games and Athletic Events” comprising of Cricket, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Throw-Ball, Shuttle Badminton, Tug of War, Athletics, Lucky Games, Housie-Housie, and other Sports Games, which will last for a month, and the event kicked-off with the Cricket Tournament on Sunday, 10 February 2019 at 10 am at FMCI Centenary Ground.

The fourteen teams of FMCI participating in this tournament were Father Muller Hospital-Thumbay; Male Nursing Order (MNO)-A & B team; FMCI Brothers; FMMC Mad Magicians; FMMC Maintenance; Homeopathy Pharma Division-Deralakatte; Operation Theatre (OT) Brothers; Super Kings; Scorpions; FMCI Cafeteria; FMCI Team Imaging; Homeopathy Medical College-Deralakatte; and FMMC Staff. Fr Ajith Menezes, Fr Rudolph Ravi D’sa, Fr Nelson, Fr Felix Monteiro from the FMCI Administration; Ms Jyothi Pinto-HR; Sr Ellen Marie, Sr Janet, Sr Jacintha D’souza and Ms Jasmine Vas from the Nursing Sector all attired in tournament jersey T-shirts, cheered the players who belonged to their departments.

The tournament was inaugurated by Fr Richard Coelho- Director of FMCI, along with all the above-mentioned dignitaries and team captains, and the oath to the team members was administered by Ms Jyothi Pinto. In his inaugural address, Fr Richard Coelho said, “This is indeed a unique idea to have sporting events to mark Founders Day/Institution Day. Not just academics and office work, we need to unleash our hidden sports talents. This will also improve your physique and health. Winning is not important, but it is the participation which counts. I am overwhelmed to note that fourteen teams comprising of nearly 170 members of FMCI fraternity are on the field ready to fight and grab the trophy. Best of luck to all”.

Sports committee Chairman Fr Roshan Crasta briefed about the activities, and thanked Fr Richard Coelho for approving the expenses for the event, but was reluctant to mention the amount. It will be a long way until 13 march 2019, when the winners in all these Sports and Games will be presented with the prizes on “Institution Day” celebrations.
