Nigerian Student bags 20 Gold Medals & 5 Cash Prizes at University of Mysuru in M Sc

 

Mangaluru: If recently our Kudla boy Vallish Shenoy who did his MBBS at A J Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre, Mangaluru had bagged 16 Ranks/Gold medals from Ragiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, here we have a Nigerian student named Emelife Stella Chinelo, who enrolled for an M.Sc in Chemistry at the University of Mysore, receiving 20 gold medals and five cash prizes over her 9.263% final grade point, at 99th UoM convocation here on Sunday.

The Nigerian student who received the 20 gold medals and five cash prizes from University of Mysore at the school’s 99th annual convocation on Sunday, 17 March 2019 is said to be the first foreign student in recent years to bag so many gold medals. It was gathered that the University of Mysore has over 1,000 foreign students, pursuing under-graduate and post-graduate courses in colleges affiliated to it and in Manasagangotri.

Speaking to media after the Convocation, beaming with pride Emelife said, “My country is reeling under poverty, epidemics and mounds of industrial waste. My life’s goal is to find a solution to all ills through chemistry. I am planning to pursue PhD at UoM. The quality of education and discipline at the varsity is extraordinary. My father Christopher, mother Caroline, husband John Amagbovov provided me the support and motivation to pursue my education in India”.

And for 46-year-old Meera Manohar Rao Anasane, age is just a number. Meera, an advocate by profession, struck gold in MA Sanskrit, bagging 10 gold medals and one cash prize. Meera’s husband Satish Baitule, is an employee of Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran, Mysuru, and the couple has 18-year old son, Samish Baitule.

Speaking to media Meera said that she had studied Sanskrit during her school days at her native in Nagpur and at Mumbai. Initially, she found the language difficult. But, after the family shifted to Mysuru, eight years back, she developed an interest in the language. Meera’s family members were all proud of her passion and interest in the language. Yet another student, P Sanjana Darla has bagged 10 gold medals and three cash prizes for her excellence in MA Economics. Darla said that, she was not expecting the top rank. “When I joined the course, I was scared of the subject and had no hopes of excelling. But, I emerged a second topper in First Semester and that gave me confidence,” she said.

A total of 28,163 graduates, including 18,127 women, from various streams, were conferred with degrees. Honorary doctorates were conferred on Mata Amritanandamayi Devi of Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt, Kollam, Kerala, in her absence, and on Karivrashabha Deshikendra Shivayogishwara Swami of Kadasiddeshwara Mutt, Nonavinakere, Tiptur.

This is coming few months after a Nigerian student Olukayode Mobolaji Oluwasona, made academic history in far away Poland after he graduated with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0 in Computer Technology from the University of Computer Sciences and Skills, Lodz, Poland.
