Wine festival marks World Tourism Day in Udupi District

Udupi: The Wine Festival organised by the district administration as a part of World Tourism Day received an encouraging response from the wine lovers who had the choice to taste and buy varieties of fruit wine at the Malpe Beach.

The Three-day long world tourism day was inaugurated at the Malpe Beach on Thursday, September 27. “The theme is designed to ensure big data helps digital platforms, artificial intelligence and the know-how of technological systems by facilitating the implementation of products, services and process that ultimately contribute to tourism transformation into a more sustainable sector. It also aims to explore the challenges and opportunities through modern technological platforms,”

According to Karnataka Wine Board officials, Nationals and international wineries participated in the festival. “We got a good response from the people here. There is good demand and taste for wine here. We are happy with the response. People have accepted and enjoyed grape wine. The wine festival includes grape-stomping. The wine education session and sales will be held to promote moderate wine consumption. It offers an opportunity for stakeholders to foster trade and business,” they said.

Further, they said, to encourage the buyers, the event had offered a 50 percent discount on wine. the objective behind organising the event was to popularise the wine industry in India which still needs a boost compared to the traditional liquor industry.

The World Tourism day was inaugurated by Dinakar Babu President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat along with Raghupathi Bhat MLA Udupi, Laxman Nimbaragi SP Udupi, Nalini Pradeep Rao president Udupi Taluk Panchayat, Bhoobalan Assistant Commissioner Kundapur and others.

In his message Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat said Udupi district is the hub of many tourist spots and beaches, marking the border of the district is a valuable resource. It is necessary to develop the district and other parts of coastal areas. The district administration will develop tourist spots in the coming days to attract a large number of tourists. While developing the tourist spots officials should take the co-operation of the local people, he said.

Udupi district Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi in his message said, India, with its great cultural diversity, has a great potential in the tourism sector. Tourism plays a major role in shaping the economy and is an integral part of our life. With the development of tourism, that states economic, educational and social development will be shaped automatically, he said.

As part of the World tourism day, a variety of programmes will be held at Malpe, Padubidri, Trasi and Maravanthe beaches in the district. “The programme comprises live beach sessions and demonstrations, surfing demonstrations, heritage sale, cycling race, remote control air show, Swachhata Pakwada programme and Kishkinda artifacts exhibition,”.

“Live Yoga session and demonstration will be held for an hour on Malpe beach and around 200 people are expected to participate. The surfing demonstration will be held on all four days at Malpe, Kaup, Padubidri and Kundapur Kodi beaches in association with the Surfing Federation of India. The remote control air show is organised at the Yuva Meridian helipad grounds at Koteshwar,”.

“Yakshagana ballets, classical and non-classical dance shows, Kangilu dance, Karaga-Kolata, Damami dance, Kathak, musical nights, the traditional dance of Koraga community, Dollu Kunita and folk music concert to entertain the audience at the beaches,” will also organised.

  1. All these guys are simply talking about tourism, etc. when they didn’t even repair the crater filled bad roads in and around Udupi when they had the opportunity to do so for the past 25 days when it had stopped raining. The
    Udupi Municipality and the MPW are not showing their efficiency in fulfilling the basic needs of the local people, how can they contribute towards tourism! Simply promoting wine does not enhance tourism – good roads, good transportation, good lighting, safety and security, and ethics are all required to accept people from all over.

    One ride to Malpe town and beach from Udupi town does not encourage even the local people – so pathetic is the condition of everything down in Udupi
