Los Angeles, Dec 17 (IANS) Actor-writer Matthew Perry, who stars as Oscar Madison in the 2015 version of the comedy TV series “The Odd Couple”, says he was a “huge fan” of the original American black comedy film which released in 1968.

“I was a huge fan of the movie. I was too young to have seen the play, but I was a huge fan of the movie and then a gigantic fan of the TV show (which came out in 1970),” Perry, who is also the executive producer and co-writer of the TV series, said in a statement.

“There are a couple of lines from the movie that have squeezed their way into the script, which is fun for me to say some lines that Walter Matthau said. It’s kind of a dream come true,” he added.

Perry, who is known for portraying Chandler Bing on the long-running sitcom “Friends”, says the new version of “The Odd Couple” would appeal to a modern audience with its “funny” content.

“It’s funny and it’s got a great cast and hopefully my take on Oscar is a little bit new and fresh and Tom’s take on Felix is new and fresh,” he said.

About the script of the TV show, Perry said: “It’s been a lot of drafts, a lot of different incarnations of the script.”

“I wrote it with Joe Keenan and Bob Daily and those guys are working, you know, when I have a run through and I have to be here, those guys are in the writer’s room, but when I am not here I am in the writer’s room,” he added.

“The Odd Couple” will premiere in India on Friday on Star World and Star World HD.
