Husband and BSP MP arrested for dowry death

Ghaziabad, April 7 (IANS) Police on Thursday arrested BSP Rajya Sabha MP Narendra Kashyap, his wife Devendri Devi and their son Sagar on charges of causing the death of Sagar’s wife Himani over dowry.

The arrests were made after a criminal case was registered against Narendra Kashyap and his family members for killing Himani for dowry. The complaint was filed by Om Prakash, Himani’s uncle.

The complaint alleged that Himani, 29, was shot dead because the Kashyap family was unhappy with the dowry she had brought after marriage.

The MP’s family was accused of demanding a Fortuner SUV vehicle after the wedding.

In his complaint, Om Prakash also named three others including the MP’s younger son Siddharth and sister-in-laws Sarita and Shobha.

Himani’s father Hira Lal Kashyap is a former Uttar Pradesh minister.

“We have registered a criminal case under Sections 304 B (dowry death) and 498 A (cruelty) of IPC (Indian Penal Code),” a police officer said.

Himani was found dead with a gunshot injury in a bathroom of their house on Wednesday.

The police said Himani married Sagar Kashyap about three years ago. She was the mother of a year-old son.

Police said on Wednesday that the Kashyap family did not alert them about the death, and they came to know about it from the hospital where she was taken.
