IBPG and ICAI receive Minister Piyush Goyal

Abu Dhabi: The Institute of Chartered Accountant of India, Abu Dhabi Chapter (ICAI) and the Indian Business and Professional Group (IBPG) jointly hosted H.E. Piyush Goyal, Minister in the Government of India at Hotel Dusit Thani on January 17, 2017.

The event was graced by the presence of the Ambassador of India to the UAE H.E. Navdeep Singh Suri. It was an elite gathering of over 250 professionals, businessmen, well known from the society, comprising of ICAI members and eminent business and social personalities.

Dr B R Shetty, Chairman, IBPG welcomed HE Piyush Goyal and commended the great work that his Ministry and the Government of India are doing. HE Piyush Goyal laid out the work that his Ministry has done over the last two and a half years. He mentioned that more than 11,000 villages have already been electrified and the target is to electrify more than 18,000 villages soon. He also mentioned that a lot of initiatives have been taken on the clean energy front. He said that the Government is working towards making life better for the poor people on all fronts. He also praised the recent Demonetisation exercise being undertaken by the Government and felt that in the long run it will accrue a lot of benefits to India.

He gave examples of how interest rates and inflation rates are the lowest in decades at the moment. He expressed hope that a day will come when India does not go after the world, the world will come after India. He also praised the role that the Indians were playing in the UAE and he mentioned that but for the excellent contribution that 2.5 mln Indians were making in the UAE, the Indo-UAE relations would not be so cordial.

ICAI and IBPG took the opportunity to welcome the new ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Navdeep Singh Suri. In his address, the Ambassador said that the Indian community in Abu Dhabi was very united and integrated in all fields like business, social and cultural. He commended the huge role played by the various associations like ICAI and IBPG, in building this kind of network and camaraderie. He said he looked forward to his time in Abu Dhabi and contribute to the India-UAE relations. ICAI and IBPG also bid farewell to H.E. Neeta Bhushan, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi who completed a three-year term in Abu Dhabi. CA Rajiv Shah, Chairman, ICAI laid out the accomplishments of Mrs Bhushan including her contribution to strengthening the relations between India and UAE. Mrs Bhushan expressed her satisfaction at her term and thanked the ICAI and IBPG for the support the organisations provided during her tenure.

All the esteemed diplomats were given a special token of appreciation from ICAI and IBPG. The IBPG was established more than 25 years ago and is one of active business groups among the 37 registered business groups in Abu Dhabi. The Vision of IBPG is ‘To create a progressive bilateral trade platform between India and the UAE and encourage inclusive commercial partnerships that will inspire entrepreneurship, networking, globalisation, innovation & job creation.’

The Abu Dhabi Chapter has been in existence for the past 31 years and currently comprises about 700 members. The Chapter is actively involved in enhancing and updating the professional knowledge of its members through organizing seminars under the Continuing Professional Education programs of the Institute. The Chapter has also been jointly awarded the “Best Overseas Chapter award” constituted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for three years in a row.
