ICYM Katapadi to host ‘Gaddeyalli Yuva Oggattu’ on August 27

Udupi: “The Katapadi Unit of Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) in association with the Udupi Deanery ICYM is set to organize an event, a day of sports for the youth called “Gaddeyalli Yuva Oggattu”, – “Gadyanth Yuva Ekvot”, in a specially designed slushy field to make it a unique one. This event will be hosted at Chokkadi, near the Papanashini river bank on Sunday 27th August 2017 and preparations are underway” said the president of ICYM.

He was speaking at a press meet held at the Press club on Monday, August 21, “Gaddeyalli Yuva Oggattu” – “Gadyanth Yuva Ekvot” as the transcription suggests, is about the display of unity among youth in the context of sports in a slush field.

The day is set to begin with the Holy Eucharistic celebration at St Vincent De Paul Church, Katapadi at 8:00 am, followed by a colourful procession to the arena of the event. Juliet Veera D’Souza, President of Katapadi Grama Panchayat will flag off the march towards the arena of the sports events.

The formal inauguration will take place at 10:00 am. Monsignor Baptist Menezes, the Vicar General of Udupi Diocese will occupy the presidential chair. Distinguished guests of honour Vinay Kumar Sorake, MLA, Kaup Constituency and Kishore Alva, Executive Director of UPCL Adani Group will inaugurate the event and the sports meet.

The curtains will be drawn for the day’s events at 5:00 pm with a valedictory function. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi will grace the occasion as the president. Pramod Madhvaraj, Minister for Sports and Fisheries, Karnataka Govt. will be the Guest of honour along with Fr Valerian Mendonca, Chancellor of Udupi Diocese also Vicar Var of the Udupi Deanery, Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner Udupi and Prashanth Jathanna, Member, Christian Development Committee Karnataka.

The following sports events will be held during the day: Volleyball, throw ball, Relay, three-legged race, pyramid-formation, tug of war etc.

A cash prize and a championship trophy will be awarded to the best performing Team followed by the runners-up Trophy and cash prize for the second best performing Team. First and Second prizes also will be awarded for individual and pair events.

About 700 youth of the Diocese are expected to partake in this event. The Katapadi Grama Panchayat and The Police personnel have extended their wholehearted support for the smooth functioning and success of this event.

Fr Ronson R D’Souza, CSC, Parish Priest, St Vincent De Paul Church, Katapadi and, Wilfred Lewis animator, ICYM were also present.
