IEEE Mangaluru Light Exhibit to be held at Pilikula Research Centre Soon

Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Chairman of IEEE-Mangaluru Sub Section, Suratkal Dayananda said, “We engineers at coastal region registered a petition to HQ through IEEE Bangalore section to start a sub-section and the Member and Geographics Activities Board (MGA Board) in IEEE HQ New York approved the same w.e.f 10th July 2013, in MGA Board meeting on 23rd Nov 2013. We had our first AGM on 15th February 2014 at NITK, where the Executive Committee (ExCom) is elected. The sub-section was inaugurated on 15th March 2014 with Prof. Dr. Swapan Bhattacharya, Director NITK as Chief Guest, Dr. Narasimha B Bhat Founder CEO of Manipal Dot Net delivered the Key Note Address as Guest of Honor and the function is presided by Mr. Ravi Kiran, Chairman IEEE Bangalore Section.”

“Organizers thank NITK Director and Administration for allowing the Inauguration Function in ATB Seminar Hall of NITK. IEEE Mangalore subsection consists of 6 districts (South Kanara, Udupi, North Kanara, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Coorg) of Karnataka which has +30 Engineering Institutions, Polytechnics and many industries who will be benefited for the technological advancements in 38 Societies and 10 technical Councils representing the wide range of IEEE technical interests, nearly 4 million documents in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, with more than 10 million downloads each month; more than 1,500 standards and projects under development; more than 148 transactions, journals, and magazines; more than 1,450 conferences in 92 countries, partnering with more than 1,000 non-IEEE entities globally; more than 1,200 conference proceedings via IEEE Xplore.” added Dayananda.

He further said, “The 2nd AGM elected a new EXCOM with 16 professionals and 2 student as members to take up more activities. An yearly Flagship event of “ I2CONECCT” [ Industry Institute Conference ON Electronics, Computing & Communication Technologies]is is conducted at NMAMIT, Nitte with M.Tech. project exhibition & competition ( the only one of its type in Karnataka) A International Conference is planned in Aug.2016 with Technical & Financial Co-Sponsorship from IEEE which will give a boost to Engineering Post Graduate & Ph.D students from India & other countries to present their research papers. National & International Academia and Industry will participate in this two day event. It is also decided to give a boost to High School & Pre University students by setting up a Facilitation & Centre For Experiments & Education in Pilikula Regional Science Centre-Vamanjoor here and support the student community in knowing the latest technologies under the STEM ( Science Technology Engineering & Maths) support scheme of IEEE.”

IEEE Mangalore is selected to spread the message of IYL2015 (International Year of Light 2015) declared by UN (United Nations) Resolution and Supported by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). Accordingly “IEEE MANGALORE LIGHT EXHIBIT” is organized. The event in Mangaluru shall be in Pilikula Regional Science Centre-Vamanjoor and the date shall be announce shortly. The event in Shivamogga shall be held on 9th Sept.2016 from 11AM to 6PM for the benefit of Engineering students at JNNCE, Shivamogga.

Annappa B- treasurer of IEEE, KV Rao-Director of Pilikula Science Research Centre, and Dr Mohit- IEEE Student Chairman were also present at the press meet.
