Immoral Activity in Hampankatta Lodge – 1 Held, 2 Women Rescued

Mangaluru: A police team led by Bunder police inspector Shantaram and women’s station inspector Kalavati raided a lodging house in the middle of the city.

The operation was conducted on receiving a tip-off that immoral activities were going on there. Two young women, said to be of Kolkata origin, were rescued and sent to a rehabilitation centre.

Mohammed Yasir (22) of Uppinangady has been arrested in the operation. Abdul Nazeer of the lodging house and another are said to have escaped arrest.

Yasir was produced in court and sent to judicial custody. Informed sources said that the women were married and had been brought to the city by a network.

Usually, when such arrests are made, women are condemned while the men who patronize the activity get away.

The women may have been trapped into the activity when they had no means of sustenance, said the sources.
