Indian hockey juniors lose to England 1-2

Marlow (England), Aug 1 (IANS) India’s junior men’s hockey team lost to hosts England 1-2 in a well fought encounter at the Bisham Abbey Sports Academy on its England tour.

The Indians on Sunday were the dominant side in the early exchanges creating some chances in the first half. In the 24th minute of the game, Ajay Yadav scored after a penalty corner improvisation giving Harendra Singh-coached team a breakthrough.

As England edged their way back into the game, scoring off a penalty corner conversion from Will Calnan in the 26th minute and then took the lead via Ed Horler’s goal in the 30th. The two sides went into half-time with the hosts leading 2-1.

India came out faster again in the second half, but were denied the equaliser by a very strong English defence. There were chances which India failed to capitalise and England held on to take a 2-1 win in the end.

We are creating several chances, but have been missing too many opportunities in front of goal. It is a fault we will rectify and hope to improve in the next match,” Harendra said after the game.
