International snowball fight held in Japan

Tokyo, Feb 8 (IANS) About 1,000 people took part in a snowball fight in an international competition held in Japan’s Niigata prefecture, the media reported on Monday.

More than 200 groups entered this year’s event held in Uonuma city on Sunday. Among them were people from Indonesia, India and Germany, public broadcaster NHK reported.

According to the rules, male competitors were eliminated when hit by snowballs three times and females, five times. The team with the most survivors at the end of the three-minute match was declared the victor.

Some of the participants dressed up like their favourite film or animation characters, giving the event a festive air.

A team of college students from Tokyo won the costume award for their outfits as film characters.
