ISL: FC Pune City begin pre-season training in Spain

Madrid, Aug 16 (IANS) As part of their pre-season training and conditioning, Indian Super League (ISL) franchise FC Pune City have commenced preparations for the forthcoming season here in Spain, under the watchful eyes of head coach Antonio Lopez Habas.

The training is being held in a complex named Vincci Valdecanas here, a Pune FC release said on Tuesday.

This is the phase two of FC Pune City’s pre-season training plans.

In the first phase, a medical and fitness test was conducted in Mumbai and Delhi for the Indian players with fitness coach Miguel Martinez and team doctor Ajit Mapari.

In Valdecanas, the entire squad, including the foreign signings, will assemble with Habas at the helm of the affairs.

Habas emphasised the importance of the pre-season training.

“The pre-season is a great opportunity to work closely with the players. We will spend time ironing out any niggles, work on players’ weaknesses and educate them about their bodies. Building match-winning fitness is the prime objective of our pre-season – without it our tactics, team spirit and technical skill will all be redundant,” Habas said, according to the release.

The squad will train in Valdecanas until September 11. The team will then fly back to Pune for the final phase of training before the tournament begins in October.
