Jayalalithaa promises free mobile phones

Chennai, May 5 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Thursday promised free mobile phones and 50 percent subsidy for women who buy scooters if the AIADMK retained power in assembly elections.

The AIADMK leader also said that coupons worth Rs.500 would be given to all ration card holders, school students would continue to get free laptop and farm loans would be written off.

Addressing an election rally at Perundurai in Erode district, she said 100 units of power consumed by households would be free and around 78 lakh households would benefit.

She also announced free set-top box for all subscribers of government-owned cable television service.

Jayalalithaa also released the AIADMK manifesto for the May 16 assembly elections.

She announced continuation of many of the welfare schemes initiated by her government.

Jayalalithaa said an Amma Venture Capital Fund would come up to assist small and medium enterprises.

Among other promises, Lokayukta would be set up, Amma Mineral Water scheme will be expanded and Metrorail will also be expanded.

  1. It is a common practice for the State Chief Ministers to neglect their domains, instead of being very honest and spending the revenues and the funds they get from revenues, taxes and Central Government in all round development of their respective States.

Since most of them are very corrupt, they and their pet bureaucrats pocket monies meant to be spent on the upliftment of the State and people and when there are tragedies like floods, earthquakes, forest fires, acts of terrorism, they are not prepared for it. At that juncture, they run to the Central Government with a begging bowl for funds and aid, as it is their birth right.

From what little I know, Jayalalitha was closely associated with MGR in films and I would not like to talk much beyond that. Today, she is a Chief Minister and buys people’s votes by giving them freebies like televisions, laptops, mobiles, etc. by not spending from her pocket, but from the State exchequer. However, people, many of whom have shallow depth of intellect, are highly pleased, not realizing that she is bankrupting Tamil Nadu and in the end they will suffer and face the music.

It is very sad to see ministers, politicians and people, treating this despicable lady as a Goddess and touching her feet. This is boot-licking at its worst. When will these stupid people realize that she may be the Chief Minister, but once on that chair she has to work and deliver the goods and she is not doing any favours.
