June 30 Deadline to Renew Trade License – Kavitha Sanil

Mangaluru: Chairperson of Mangalore City Corporation Health Committee Kavitha Sanil held a press meet at the MCC Premises here, on June 16.

Addressing the mediapersons, Kavitha said that last year 29,100 traders had obtained trade licenses within the MCC limits, but during the current year, only 19,561 traders have renewed their licenses and 740 traders have canceled their license. The remaining 8,799 traders are yet to renew their license.

“We have collected Rs 1.88 crore till the end of May through the renewal and by issuing new trade licenses for the year 2016-17. An amount of Rs 1.22 crore is yet to be collected.”

She urged all traders to renew their trade license by the end of June 2016. “If anyone fails to renew their license, the MCC will take necessary action to shut down such businesses. We have already formed a team in the Revenue and Health department to follow up such cases,” she added.

Precautions during Monsoon

Since the monsoons have arrived in Mangaluru, citizens should take all the measures to prevent the spread of contagious diseases. Hot water should be provided in all the hotels for customers. Overhead tanks and other water storing tanks should be well secured to prevent breeding of mosquitoes. Fish like guppies or gambusia, which prevent mosquitoes from breeding, can be used in wells; they are available in the Mangaluru City Corporation. If anyone is found to have a fever, they should be taken to the hospital for a blood test. A test for Malaria will be done free of cost in government hospitals.

Plastic Ban

The state government had banned the use of plastic from 11 March, 2016 since it is dangerous to the environment as well as the health of the people. The district also implemented the ban since April 15. “Street vendors and some businesses still use plastic to sell their products. We will take action against those who use plastic and penalize them. Flouting the rules continuously will lead to cancellation of their trade license.” She also said that the MCC has taken an initiative to distribute 15,000 carry bags which are made of pure cotton. “We will distribute more carry bags in the coming days,” said Kavitha.

Deputy commissioner of MCC Gokuldas Nayak, former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde, Premanada Shetty and others were also present.
