Juventus dealt Chiellini blow ahead of crunch matches

Turin, Feb 10 (IANS) Juventus’ key defender Giorgio Chiellini may be out for 20 days due to a right leg injury, dealing a major blow to the Italian football champions ahead of crucial matches which could determine their season.

Juventus host Serie A leaders Napoli on Saturday and German champions Bayern Munch in a Champions League quarter-final first leg match on February 24.

The Juventus squad trained on Tuesday except Chiellini, who “underwent a series of tests after departing the action towards the end of last weekend’s clash against Frosinone at the Stadio Matusa”.

“These revealed a torn soleus muscle in his right leg, an injury that is expected to keep him out for up to 20 days,” Juventus declared on their official website on Tuesday.

Massimilano Allegri’s men are trailing Napoli by two points as they chase their 15th straight win in Serie A. Saturday’s match against the Maurisio Sarri-coached Napoli at the Juventus Stadium is expected to have a crucial impact on the title race.

Juventus host German giants Bayern in the first leg of Champions League quarter-finals and Chiellini’s absence can be a big worry for Allegri.

Juventus are already depleted with premier striker Mario Manduzic battling fitness issues.
