Karkala: Another ‘Birth on Wheels’ – Salmara Woman Delivers Male Child in Ambulance

Karkala: The cases of women getting admitted to hospitals in the late stage of pregnancy have been on the rise.

The risk borne by ambulance staff in transit when they shift the expectant women to the hospitals is no less in gravity than the families themselves.

In almost all cases which have been reported in the media in the past years, skilful handling of the emergency situations by the paramedics and pilots of the ambulances has helped in safe delivery.

To add to the number, Leelavati (29), wife of S Vivek of Salmara near here, suffered from severe birth pains at the weekend and was being attended to in the taluk government hospital.

To avoid complications, she was advised to be sent to Lady Goschen hospital in Mangaluru.

As the vehicle reached Mulki, the woman delivered a male child. The ambulance staff successfully handled the childbirth.
