Karkala: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) St Maria Goretti Church Hirgan Unit boys’ cricket team and the ladies throw-ball team of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church Nakre Unit were declared as winners of the Deanery-level Cricket and Throw-ball Tournament respectively, organised by ICYM Karkala Deanery on Sunday, September 20 at the Swaraj Maidan here.
ICYM St Lawrence Church Attur boys cricket team and ICYM Lourdes Church Kanajar ladies Throw-ball team were the runners in the respective events.
In the individual category in cricket, Jason Hirgan was adjudged as the Best Bowler, Steevan Hirgan the Man of the Match and Joyson Attur the Man of Series. In the throw ball tournament, Priya Kanajar received the Best Player award while Willinda Nakre received the Best all-rounder.
8 teams in Cricket and 7 teams in Throw-ball from Karkala Deanery participated in the tournament.
Michael Rodrigues (Media Co-ordinator and also district chief correspondent of Mangalorean.com) who was chief guest of the valedictory ceremony distributed the prizes to the winners. Earlier in the morning, the deanery level cricket and throw-ball tournament was inaugurated by Fr Joshwy Fernandes, Vicar Forane of Karkala deanery, along with Fr Sunil D’Silva (Youth Director of Karkala deanery) and Elsi D’Souza (Animator). Franklin Danti (president of deanery) and Lavita Saldana (secretary) were also present.
