Karkala: Theft of Cash, Valuables Worth Rs 2.50 Lakh from Anantashayana House

Karkala: K Jayarama Bhat and Usha couple, residing in a house at Anantashayana here, had locked it and gone to Hyderabad on Dec 22 to attend a friend’s daughter’s wedding

They used the opportunity to visit Mantralaya and other tourist centres in Andhra and Telangana and returned home on Thursday afternoon. An utter shock awaited them. The front door could not be opened with the keys they had.

On checking around, the rear door of the house was found broken open by miscreants for the purpose of theft. On their way out, the thieves had locked the front door from inside.

The steel cabinet in the bedroom was missing. It was found lying flat in the next room. It lay broken open. Gold, silver and diamond ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh had been taken away.

The incident took place so close to commerical establishments, yet it did not catch anyone’s attention. The CCTV system installed on the premises of Muthoott Finance nearby had gone out of function. This has made tracing the culprits difficult.

Fingerprint and canine squads visited the spot. But no vital clues were available.
