Karwar: Over Fifty Fishermen Stranded in Two Boats at Sharavati Estuary Rescued

Karwar: Two fishing boats which were returning to the Honnavar port after fishing got stranded in the sand mounds at the estuary of river Sharavati late Saturday night.

The boats, bearing the names of Shri Mahalakshmi and Shri Siddhi Vinayaka, got grounded. Over fifty fisheremen were on board both the boats.

Crew of other boats rescued all of them and there was no casualty. Efforts continue to save the boats from sinking. Since the rope used to tug snapped, the Mahalakshmi boat sank because of a crack right in the middle.

The value of the sunken boat is said to be Rs 1 crore.
