Kasaragod: 7 Kgs Gold Found in Fuel Tank of Foreign Car Shipped from Dubai

Kasaragod: More and more ingenious ways are being found to smuggle gold into the country since the yellow metal has a lot of demand, attraction and glamour attached to it.

A car of foreign make which was imported into the country from Dubai by sea through Kochi port had a hidden load in it. Seven kgs of gold, in the form of 13 chains of 24 karat gold stashed away in a place, which anyone would look for last. The gold was found hidden in the fuel tank.

Shabbir Ali (40) of Hosadurg and Ziad (36) of Kotappara in Nileshwar were said to be involved in this operation. Their homes in the district were raided by the customs officials. The matter would have passed unnoticed but for a tip-off received at the time of the clearing the car at the customs.

Modin Kunhi of Puttur in the district has been arrested.
