Kashmir is integral part of India: Kanhaiya

New Delhi, March 18 (IANS) Kashmir is an integral part of India and so Indians can discuss the issues pertaining to Kashmiris at any forum, JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar said on Friday.

Speaking at the India Today conclave, Kanhaiya Kumar said: “There is no doubt that Kashmir is an integral part of India. And since Kashmiris are Indians, we can always discuss their issues.”

Kanhaiya Kumar, who was charged with sedition, denied supporting Kashmiri militant Afzal Guru, who was hanged for his role in the terror attack on the Indian parliament, but said he opposed capital punishment.

“Our protest (on February 9) was against capital punishment, not in support of Afzal,” he said, adding that even if an ABVP activist was given capital punishment, he would oppose it.

“The JNU culture promotes debate and discussion. It is not our culture to stop people from speaking or putting forth their point of view, even if we do not agree with it,” he added.

Asked why he did not stop people from raising anti-India slogans at the JNU campus on February 9, he said neither he or nor his All India Students Federation (AISF) supported anti-India slogans or Kashmir’s secession.

  1. Mr Kanhai

Thanks for Acknowledging that Kashmir is a part of India. Usually kids at 7 or 8 learn this in their primary school. You’ do not need Phd to realise this. And also thanks also for not supporting kashmiri

Just to educate you: Pakistan is not a part of India after 1947. So in future: do not say Pakistan Zindabad in your campaign. Tell your supporters: it should be India Zindabad.

  2. Vas
But your Sanchalak praised Mr Jinah, the other gave a VIP sendoff by dropping the terroristuntil his door step, other gave a surprise visit as it is his sasural(Sorry i didn’t what he did there) with saree to the mom of nawaz sherriff

  3. Pakistan is our neighbouring country and we would like to remain as their friend [but from cricket: we always enjoy cricket Ind-Pak]. Our fight is not against Pakistan but against terrorist in Pakistan and supporters of “Pakistan terrorist” in India. Only way to eradicate terrorism is stop supporting it in the name of politics.

  4. “The JNU culture promotes debate and discussion. It is not our culture to stop people from speaking or putting forth their point of view, even if we do not agree with it” – Report quoting a ’28 yrs old student’ who became popular in the eyes of anti-hindu, anti-indian groups after ‘paakistaan zindaabad’ incident!!!!

Yes – JNU culture promotes debates and discussions. It explains why the very same JNU opposed and later cancelled Baba Ramdev’s lecture in Dec 2015!!! What a joker this guy is!! I’m not really surprised by what this ’28-yrs old student’ had to say. The bigger question is – where is the media and how come they didn’t challenge his talking points? Oh never mind – we don’t have a media in India!!
