Kerala Governor misses flight as pilot refuses to wait

Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): Kerala Governor Justice P Sathasivam failed to board an Air India flight from Kochi to the state capital after the pilot reportedly refused to wait for the dignitary and took off.

Raj Bhavan sources said the Governor reached Nedumbassery International airport about 10 minutes before the flight was to depart at 11:40 PM yesterday, but the “step ladder had been removed and the flight was pushing back”.

According to the sources, the Governor was returning to the state capital after attending a function in Kozhikode. They were informed by Air India officials that the Delhi-Kochi -Thiruvanthapuram A1048 flight will take off at 1140 PM.

The delayed flight had yesterday reached Kochi airport at 10.58 PM and was to leave by 1140 PM.

“We got a communication from the airport that the flight will take off at 11.40 PM. However, when the Governor, accompanied by his wife reached the airport at 11.28 PM to board the flight, we saw the step ladder had been removed and the flight was pushing back,” the sources told PTI.

AI officials were waiting at the ladder point with the Governor’s boarding pass. The sources said though the Air India manager had informed the pilot that the Governor was arriving, he refused to wait for him and closed the door.

When contacted, the airport sources said the Governor had reached the tarmac when the flight was at the “push back stage and the doors were closed”.

Raj Bhavan sources said they would be taking up the matter with appropriate authorities even as Air India sources said they were looking into the matter.

After an overnight stay at Kochi, the Governor reached the state capital by road this morning. Two years ago, the then Governor Nikhil Kumar had also faced a similar situation.

  1. Kerala Governor. Justice P. Sathasivam, has to obey the rules. So what, if he is a Governor? All Indians have to follow the rules and there cannot be two set of rules; one for the privileged, high and mighty and the second for the common people.

  2. The Captain deserves a national award for promptness and keeping his duty.

How sadly, the bygone rotten British bureaucracy is running very smoothly in India?
The paid airline passengers will have to catch up their journey with other airlines and
through other means of transportation to reach their destinations. But, they were treated
like refuges waiting in line to get free food.

If this Pilot is penalized by the BJP Government, the Ministry of Aviation and the rest, the
airline passengers of India and around the world should raise their voice and teach a
lesson to the white elephant Air India, the real Government ferry service.

    • Mr. A.S. Mathew,

I agree with your comments. The Captain of that Air India flight needs to be commended for not waiting for His Exalted Highness, the Governor of Kerala to come at his own will and pleasure to board the flight. Politicians, netas, cricketers and filmi sitaras think that they are superior and elite breeds, thanks to unashamed public adultation (and VIP culture taken for granted by them), rather than having the practical view that like anybody else, they have to work for a living. I remember that years ago in West Bengal, when one cricketer was kept out of the team for a few matches, the people there framed his photos and did poojas and rituals for his inclusion in the team. This cricketer was not a legend, but had a test batting average in 40s. This is how stupid many Indians are.

All the State Governors are appointed by the Central Governments of the day, on the basis of being “haan jees” or “yes men” But from what I read today, he was initiated action against Air India. Air India will buckle down, because it is run by the Government and the officials have to tow the line and keep the netas happy or it would be a disaster. So, why not make the Captain a sacrificial lamb to please the Governor of Kerala, who got a cushy assignment thanks to BJP, rather than leading a retired life. Baitey, baitey, he is enjoying all the of office, including an ADC equivalent to an Army Captain. Budeypan mey aur kya chheeyey.

Under Tatas, Air India was one of the top five airlines in the world and see, thanks to nationalisation, it has become a “ghoda gadi” service catering primarily to netas and babus. On the Americn, European and Far Eastern routes, Air India flies the best aircrafts and their cabin crews are young, smart and well mannered. This is done out of necessity due to fierce competition from other and better airlines. Years ago, when I was in flights, one going to Tokyo and the other going to Singapore, the cabin was manned by beautiful air hostesses of a pedigree and when they smiled it was heart warming. Sorry, it was heart melting. On the Arabian Gulf routes, Air India’s cabin crews are in their 50s, ugly, out-of-shape and arrogant. They feel that they are doing a favour to passengers and their attitude without sounding sarcastic, is similar to old day upper castes looking down on lower castes. Just like Railways, Air India is run by incompetent and probably corrupt Civil Aviation Ministers and, therefore, this airlines is in a pathetic state. They just do not want to privatize Air India.

  3. So…someone shows up late and misses the flight. Why is it in news? Again, our media needs to have higher standards for politicians. We need to stop treating them as if they are some kind of celebrities.

And, I am not sure why AS Beef Mathew brings up BJP in his response!! Can’t he digest his beef without attacking BJP and Hindus everyday?

    • The Governor
was placed in Kerala by the BJP Government, the current Government
replaced many former Governors, thus replacing the former CM of New Delhi
who was the Governor of Kerala.. If that pilot is penalized for his firm
action not waiting for the Governor, then the
BJP Government will be the answerable, that is all my friend who is
offending me with “AS Beef Mathew”. You will be addressed now on
as ” Dal Pai” or peanut Pai”. in my comments if you don’t make an apology to me.
I am not speaking for any political party in India, but when I see the
double standard game plan of the BJP, you can expect more comments
from me for the massive bluffing of the electorate of India by the
invalid political rhetoric of the BJP. Mr. I am not a criminal and I don’t
want any politician’s favor in India, but only the favor and help of the
ALMIGHTY GOD, whom you do disregard, your God might be the
      BJP party.

Do you know the RSS Chief of Arunachal Pradesh said that the RSS people
eat beef there. If anybody handle beef in Maharastra and Haryana, they
will end up in jail or butchered by the street goons. Glad that you are
the spokesperson for the beef worshippers of India.

What you have to say about the Jaitley issue? Mr. Modi
is standing behind him like you do, but the BJP MP spoke against him,
      he was kicked out of the party;
and many will be coming to the forefront to open a new chapter in the
beef-ban aachi din party of India?

      • The Governor of Kerala should be ashamed of himself. The flight was supposed to taxi away at 11.40 p.m. to take off and he arrives at 11.30 p.m. Does he think that he is Lord Mountbatten travelling in an aircraft personally assigned to him? In spite of all this, he has the gall to initiate action against Air India when, in fact, he should have checked in one hour before the flight.

      • Dear Readers,16 A

I wish each and every one of you a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a BRIGHT PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR. May the year 2016, usher in happiness, contentment and prosperity to all of you.

Coincidentally, 25th December is a national holiday in Pakistan, not because of Christmas, but because Mr. Mohd. Ali Jinnah, their Quad-E-Azam and the most improbable leader to have become the Father-of-the-Nation of an Islamic Nation, was born on this day.

I also express my sentiments to Ms. Violet Pereira, her family members and staff.

        Again, with best wishes,

        Nelson Lewis

    • Original R.Pai – “AS Beef Mathew brings up BJP in his response!! Can’t he digest his beef without attacking BJP and Hindus everyday?”

Mr. Ajeerna Pill Popping Paimaam, if you have any more pills in your medicine chest left after treating Modi, RSS and sundry in your camp, please give a few to others too.

  4. Dear readers,

Assam Governor PB Acharya says ‘Hindustan is for Hindus’ comment

Tripura Governor and former president of the Bengal BJP Tathagata Roy has said that the fight against intolerance will only be balanced when Muslims have pork in the open.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik “Ram Mandir should be built as soon as possible. That is the wish of the Indian citizens and the wish should be fulfilled,”

These governors who swore to the constitution, forgot they are holding the office to serve the citizens are in highest post.PM modi should sack these RSS leaning Governors for dereliction of duty and misusing the office.

Is our Mr.Mukherjee President aware of his subordinate controversial statements? Is he still hand picking files to hang Muslim only convicts in hurry?

What a pathetic democracy India is heading for?

    Jai Hind
