Kinnigoli: ‘Kateel Gram Panchayat’ Signboards to Appear in Kondemoola Soon

Kinnigoli: It has been a matter of irony that a place of historical importance like Kateel did not have a gram panchayat in its name. In neighbouring Kinnigoli, places are scattered among Mennabettu, Aikala, Talipadi and other panchayats.

The Kateel temple is located in Kondemoola village. The new Kondemoola gram panchayat had been formed by merging Kilenjoor,Kondemoola and Nadugodu villages. As the villages developed and the population increased, two new gram panchayats of Kinnigoli and Mennabettu came into existence.

In view of the importance of the Kateel temple and to justify its identity, there had been demands to rename the Kondemoola panchayat as Kateel gram panchayat. MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary had sent a proposal to this effect to minister H K Patil of department of rural development a few years ago.

Later on, MP Nalinkumar Kateel and minister Abhayachandra Jain also put pressure on the government to name it as Kateel.

Now the state government is understood to have consented to the changing of the name as Kateel.
