Konkani Basha Mandal to host ‘Konkani Language Day’

Konkani Basha Mandal, an organization started in the year 1974 will organize “Konkani Langauge Day 2016” celebration on Sunday, 21 August 2016 at Don Bosco Hall, Balmatta Rd, Mangaluru from 2pm-6pm

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Geetha C Kini, the President of Konkani Basha Mandal said, “Konkani Basha Mandal,Mangaluru-DK was established in 1974 with the aim of creating awareness in Konkani Art, Culture, Literature, Folk and various purpose to promote our language in the Society. Under our Association during 1992, several similar associations united together and struggled for the central Govt.’s recognition to our language. As a result on 20th August 1992 Govt of India has given recognition to the Konkani language and included Konkani under 8th schedule of our nation’s constitution.”

She further said, “We have arranged various activities to promote Konkani language for the students of High schools and college for celebrating this golden day every year continuously since 6-7 years for students Konkani Quiz programmes being conducted by us and Konkani Quiz books are being released since 3 years to increase the command in Konkani language. This year we are thinking to extend our activities for students by conducting competitions at various levels including arranging scripts and train master of ceremonies among students.We expect around 500 participants.We are going to honour the winning candidates in a grand manner with various prizes and shields to schools/colleges of participants.”

“We have arranged a function as “KONKANI MANYATHA DIVAS” (Konkani Recognition Day) at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru on Sunday, 21 August 2016 between 2 to 6 pm. Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president, Roy Castelino will inaugurate the function, while Ananth G Pai M.D of Bharath Group of companies will preside over, Prashanth Shet, owner of S,L Shet Diamond House will participate as the chief guest. For the closing ceremony President of Vishwa Konkani Centre Mangaluru, Shri Basti Vaman Shenoy will be the chief guest along with our association president Smt. Geetha Kini.

Lion Vasanth Rao active member of the Association, Mrs.Meenakshi Pai, Secretary, Dinesh Shet-Treasurer and Suresh Shenoy-Convener of Programme were present during the press meet.
