Kundapur: Debt-ridden Farmer Commits Suicide in Jadkal

Kundapur: A debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by consuming poison at his house in Jadkal village under Kollur police station limits on February 12.

The deceased has been identified as C C Joseph (58) Son of Xavier resident of Bisinapare Chamakana Mane of Jadkal Village.

According to the police Joseph consumed pesticide at around 8:30 pm. Members of his family had immediately shifted him to the taluk government hospital for treatment. However, he failed to respond to the treatment and passed away around midnight.

Joseph was cultivating Rubber and cashew in his 2 – acre land in Jadkal. He borrowed Rs 2.5 lakh loan from the society and from private moneylenders for farming activities. Fearing he would be unable to repay the loan, he took the extreme step.

Joseph is survived by wife, two daughters and a son.

Ashwathi assistant commissioner Kundapur, Gayathri Nayak Thasildar Kundapur visited the Taluk hospital and met the family members.

A case has been registered in Kollur Police Station.
