Kundapur: Gujjadi Resident Arrested under Goonda Act and Sent to Kalaburagi Jail

Kundapur: Muhammed Haneef aka Haneef (35), a resident of Holy Cross locality in Gujjadi, who faced  charges of communal clashes and cattle-trafficking, has been arrested under the Goonda Act. He has been sent to Kalaburagi central jail.

He was allegedly involved in several incidents of cattle-trafficking under the Gangolli police limits ever since 2002. He has been accused of taking part in four communal clashes and nine cases of illegal transportation of cattle.  Of these, seven had been disposed of and he has been given prison sentences.

The Byndoor circle inspector had submitted a report to the district SP for onward recommendation to the deputy commissioner and ex-officio district magistrate.

The DC has endorsed the request and slapped the provisions of the Goonda Act on Haneef. Accordingly, the Kundapur police picked him up from near the Annappayya auditorium in Trasi on Oct 28 night. He has been lodged in the Kalaburagi (formerly Gulbarga) central prison.
