Kundapur: Organizations Oppose Shifting of Women’s Police Station to Udupi

Kundapur: An exclusive women’s police station has been functioning here over the past few years. There is reportedly a plan to have it shifted to the district headquarters in Udupi.

Women’s organizations joined hands and staged a protest in front of the mini Vidhana Soudha demanding retention of the station as it is now.

Social activist and Beejadi gram panchayat member Ravindra Dodmane said that the station had benefited the rural womenfolk a lot. Women hesitate to approach even when the station was based in a taluk centre.

The situation could be much worse if it was shifted to the district headquarters, he said.

A procession was taken out from Shastri circle to the office of the subdivisional police office and a memorandum was submitted for onward dispatch to higher authorities.

Thereafter, the procession continued up to the office of the revenue assistant commissioner of the subdivision. A memorandum with similar contents was submitted for forwarding to the chief minister.
