Kundapur: Police Sub Inspector Assaults Journalists

Kundapur: Two journalists were allegedly assaulted by SI Naseer Hussain here on Friday, November 27 when they had covering the suicide case of a fire service personnel at Hemmadi.

According to sources, on Friday afternoon, Taluk correspondent of a daily, John D’Souza and the correspondent of a local Kannada web portal Shrikanth Hemmadi had gone to cover the suicide case of a fire service personnel who had committed suicide at the Hemmadi bridge.

While they were doing their job, the SI of Kundapur, who was at the suicide spot, did not want the journalists to collect information about the case and assaulted both John D’Souza and Srikanth without any reason, it is alleged.

The Working Journalists’ Association of Kundapur Taluk condemned the incident and submitted a memorandum to the DySP of Kundapur to take action against the SI. Later, SI Naseer apologised to the journalists in the presence of the DySP.
