Kuwait: North Kanara Association joyfully celebrated their first event of the year “New Year Bonanza – 2016” on Friday the 8th January 2016 at the Rajdhani Palace, Kheitan, under the able leadership of President, John Fernandes backed by his Executive Members and other members of the Association.
The event was initiated to reach out to the needy and deserving school students of the eleven Talukas of North Kanara District, India, who are economically challenged in continuing their education and pursue their academic goal.
The function began with a prayer by Blossom Fernandes invoking God’s blessings. The President John Fernandes extended a brief but hearty welcome to the guests. A cake was cut by the Committee Members to mark the festive season. With around 150 guests, not only from North Kanara but other parts of India, especially the Goan Community, the competent Laveena D’Souza, Compere of the day, kept the atmosphere very lively with her enthusiastic approach. Kuwait’s top DJ Shahu Almeida mesmerized the audience throughout the event with his Live Music, which the audience enjoyed thoroughly until the end of the program, repeatedly requesting him for more music.
Spot prizes were given away throughout the event, lucky draws for Novelty, Raffle, Entry Coupons and Games for children and adults were an added attraction and the winners were awarded with fabulous prizes. Entry of Santa Claus, part played by Joseph Fernandes was the highlight of the event which drew cheerful shouts from the children. Chocolate bars and other goodies were distributed to the children.
Shawn Almeida sought blessings before meals followed by a sumptuous buffet that was relished by all. Savy Borges delivered a meaningful Vote of Thanks. Edward Alphonso felicitated the vibrant compere Laveena D’Souza presenting her a Memento on behalf of the NKA-K for her selfless service. A final word of gratitude was from Grace Fernandes who thanked each one in the audience, especially Gasper and Jackeline Rodrigues for all their support in organizing the event, Clifford Miranda who worked hard behind the scenes, Lucas Pereira for his wonderful input during the event, Jane Pereira, Tracy David, Edwin David and each member present in the audience for their benevolent act of support including the Committee Members. The function ended assuring the audience of prayerful support from NKA-K.
