Lakhs of people celebrate Chhath festival in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Nov 17 (IANS) Lakhs of people celebrated Chhath festival across Jharkhand on Tuesday.

On Tuesday evening, the devotees thronged the banks of rivers and dams and other water bodies to offer prayers to Sun god.

“Every year, I celebrate Chhath festival by fasting for 36 hours. This is the most pious festival for us,” said a local, Suman Singh.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das participated in Chhath festivities in his home district of Jamshedpur.

The four-day Chhath festival began on Sunday, for which special arrangements have been made for devotees at various ghats in the state.

The Chhath festival would end on Wednesday morning as devotees pay obeisance to the rising Sun.

The state government has announced a public holiday on Chhath.
